Information About thisYear's Science Fair
The 2018 Baltimore Science Fair (BSF) will be held over the weekend of March 24 & 25, 2018 at Towson University at the Union Building (click here for map: http://towson.edu/main/maps).
The fair is broken into two divisions (I & II). Divisions I is for students in grades 9 through 12 and Division II is for grades 6 through 8. Each division is further broken into physical sciences and biological sciences. Those have sub-categories as well.
The Baltimore Science Fair abides by the rules set forth by International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), except for height requirements ( maximum height - 60 " from table to top of exhibit). Those rules are explained in their rules booklet which can be viewed on their website (http://www.societyforscience.org/isef) - click on Rules and Guidelines. All forms can be accessed from our Main Menu - click on All ISEF Forms.
If you are a MIDDLE SCHOOL student (Grade 6 - 8 ) - you do NOT have to fill out any ISEF forms unless your project involves one of the following :
- Human subjects
- Hazardous Biological material
- Hazardous materials or devices
- Tissue samples
- Work conducted in a regulated laboratory
IMPORTANT! We have a local rule at our fair for safety purposes. The size of the exhibit is limited to 30 inches deep (front to back), 48 inches wide (side to side) and 60 inches tall (table to ceiling). No floor space is available, nor usable. Your exhibit must fit in the dimensions listed above. No exceptions.
You can only apply using the on-line application process.
>>>>> Registration is now CLOSED. <<<<<
At this time, the number of high school entrants per school is fifteen ( 15). The number for middle school is six (6). We set this number in order to allow as many students from as many schools as possible to participate given the size of the exhibit hall. This number may be adjusted at a later date. We will notify the school administrators, if we adjust these numbers. Please check with your science teacher or science department head as to how many students have registered from your school. These numbers will be checked as applications come in to make sure that the limits are not exceeded.
Please be sure to send the appropriate COPIES of your paperwork and ISEF forms as it applies to your project to our Scientific Review Committee (SRC) as soon as you know that you will be participating in the Fair.
It is your responsibility to make sure that all of your paperwork is properly completed, signed by the appropriate people and then forwarded to the SRC. If not, you could be disqualified!
The SRC mailing address can be found on the Home Page.
The Grand Prize winners from Division I (high school) will be eligible to compete at the International Science & Engineering Fair to be held in May 13 - 18, 2018 in Pittsburgh, PA.
